This Post Could Save Your Life

Ok, I am not one to post about things that really don't relate to going green, or kids, but I am making an exception.

Until a few months ago I had never heard of a Brown Recluse Spider. I actually learned about them from watching Infested on Animal Planet. This spider is found in about 19 of our states (depending on which map you are looking at), which means in affects many of us.

So here is the really bad news about this spider. It is small and looks harmless, not like the obvious great big black spiders, this one can be as small as a penny. These wonderfully terrifying spiders live in gardens, garages, love attics, and hide in dark places like SLIPPERS.

So if this wasn't terrifying enough, I want to point out how deadly their venom is, it can kill you. I am going to attach pictures of a time lapse of a mans hand. Now if this were a baby's back, he/she would probably not survive which is why I am sharing this very important information with all of you. Print out these pictures. Do some research, share with everyone in your family. Please! If you know of anyone in these states, they should be aware of how deadly this small little spider is.

The next set is a time lapse. Please note that these are some pretty graphic photos. I wouldn't show them if I didn't feel like it would stress the urgency.

This is 3 days after this man was bitten by a Brown Recluse:

By day 5 it looks like this:

Day 6:

Day 9:

And by 10 this is how this mans hand looked:

If you have to be in your attic, turn on the light and walk away for 30 minutes to let it light up and for these spiders to scatter. If you are gardening wear rubber gloves. These are such scary spiders and could have deadly consequences. Please spread the word to all of your family and friends!

And here goes nothin!

So among everything else going on, I am at a daily struggle on trying to lose weight. I had a baby on November of 2010, so I let this be my excuse for a long time, and now, there are none.

I have decided the only way to hold myself accountable is to tell the world about it, so that is what I am going to do. I am going to talk about my daily struggles, weigh in every week and talk about my progress AND what I am doing to lose and/or maintain the weight that I do lose. So here is me, putting it out there.

April 9, 2012

So today is officially it. The day I say I am going to really start trying to lose it. I weighed in at 184 lbs (this would be 9 lbs heavier than I weighed on Thanksgiving), so already a downer. I had my Ideal Protein shake for breakfast (mixed with coffee) and the nasty tasting Tomato Basil Soup (another Ideal Protein product) for lunch. Then for dinner I had a chicken breast and some Alfredo noodles and sauce (not the best for me, but at this point I had had 200 calories and was STARVING). So we will see what tomorrow brings.

Go Broke, Die Rich Book Review

So I have started the process of opening a retail store. I am applying for grants, I suppose next will come loans to make up for the difference. I am really aiming for January 1, but as we all know, things happen, so that date is just “penciled” in. But I have been given the opportunity to read some great books, and I am happy to pass along the info to you.

The book that I just finished is called Go Broke, Die Rich and was written by William Manchee. I honestly found this to be an easy book to read and finished most of it in one evening. Mr. Manchee starts each chapter with a new story about how a business owner did or did not do, that aided in the failure, or almost failure of their business. I think this would be great for someone to read on how to avoid some of the misfortunes of others. With that being said, there are also many examples of businesses that were on the verge of failing, but, through great advice, were able to come back and keep their businesses surviving.
Mr. Manchee goes over some things that I expected, looting, giving away a product, and misfortune. But he also went over some not so common things that we hear about such as local, state, and federal tax problems, hoping the problems will go away, and coming back from a failure.
This is one of many books that I have read on the “to do’s” and “not to do’s” in starting and operating a business, but this is really well written and I have already recommended it to others. Now lets meet the author!
William Manchee as an attorney out of Dallas Texas and practices law with his son Jim, specializing in small businesses. He is married to Janet and they have four children together. He graduated law school from SMU Law School and has over 30 years of experience practicing law. Mr. Manchee has now written 15 books, and has plans to publish one book a year, for the rest of his life.

To read more about Mr. Manchee, and to see the other books he has written please check out his website.
Would you like a chance to win a copy of this book? Here it is!

Looking for some super cheap stuff?

While browsing the web yesterday trying to find my grandfather a gift (doesn't need to be much, but I wanted to get him SOMETHING) I came across a site called No More Rack. The idea is that you cut out the middle man and get things for dirt cheap. I am not being paid for this blog, I am really just throwing this out there since Fathers Day (well and mothers day) are so close.

Here is an example. I found this bracelet (for a man). Now I would never purchase this for my grandfather, but would absolutely consider it for hubby. And this was only $6. Now you think that the shipping woul have to kill you right? Nope, only $2. So for this nice looking leather bracelet that usually retails for $29.99, you can get it for $8 SHIPPED!
